Boasting 192 square miles of shoreline, the beautiful beaches and warm breezes beckon you to come relax. Finding Your Way

Getting around town is pretty simple. Once you’re in the main area, you’ll find it pretty walkable. There’s The B, the public city bus if you’re after public transportation but we prefer The Hop or the Seawall Surries! Uber & Lyft are easy to use to get around town in. And for those with a car in town, getting to the beach couldn’t be easier. In fact, you can drive up and park right on the beach itself! You’ll need to buy a permit, but it’s $12 for the year and can be bought at many different locations all across the Coastal Bend!

Airport Deets

Corpus Christi International Airport (CRP) is 6 miles from the city. It is served by United, American, Southwest, Lufthansa, Alaska and Spirit Airlines. Once you arrive, American Cab Company and Express Cab operate from the arrivals terminal and Uber and Lyft are readily available to drive into the city. Some hotels offer shuttles directly to their door too. However, it’s very common to fly into San Antonio or Houston and drive to Corpus!

History

Legend says that in 1519, on the Feast Day of Corpus Christi, Spanish explorer Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda discovered a lush semi-tropical bay on the southern coast of Texas and named it the “Body of Christ.” It was a frontier trading post in the 1830’s founded by Colonel Henry Kinney and called Kinney’s Ranch. In 1845, U.S. troops set up camp there to prepare for the war with Mexico and secure it as our southern border. Corpus Christi is a town proud of its history from all sides and that’s evident as you explore. From the music that pours out to the museums to the feat of Corpus Christi, there’s always something to see and explore.

Why Am I Here?

The beaches are perfect for all the sun worshippers out there but if you want to be active, this town has so much to offer - from parasailing to golfing to fishing to windsurfing to biking and hiking and birdwatching - you can stay busy for days! The harbor front Texas State Aquarium is one of the best and there are two water parks not far away, the Schlitterbahn and Hurricane Alley which will delight kids of all ages.

Summer sees temperatures topping 90 degrees (with high humidity) which can seem oppressive when you’re not near the water. April, May, and October are more comfortable with temps in the 80s and lower humidity. It is partly cloudy year round and the short winters bring averages of 50-70°. It rarely dips below 37° or gets above 97° degrees. From May-October there is a 22% chance of rain on any given day. Winters are drier.

Texas’ Gulf Coast is one of the best places in America to dine on shrimp, fresh fish and oysters. But if you’d prefer a steak, well you are in Texas, they can wrangle you up the best cuts of meat in the country and it will all be cooked to perfection! If you like beer and spirits, do the Corpus Christi Beer Trail with seven stops where you can tour and/or taste local brands.

Souvenirs

Typical take home treasures are beach cover ups, seashells, t-shirts and ornaments, but if you’re up for it, there are many great tattoo shops in town!

Style

Casual beach attire is always the norm here. Throw an umbrella in your bag in case of rain or just for some shade. Don’t forget a cool hat and your sunscreen!

Must Know

This isn’t your usual beach destination. It’s also one of Texas’ great musical cities. On Fridays and Saturdays enjoy different genres of music at live concerts on the beach and in October, they host a huge Jazz Festival. Visit the memorial to Selena, the “Queen of Texan Music” who was born and rose to stardom there at the downtown seawall. The movie, Pearl Harbor, was filmed here on the USS Lexington, which is now a naval aviation museum.

There’s nowhere in the world I’d rather be than here in my room dreaming about you and me
