Finding Your Way

Sedona is spread out so a car is necessary to not only get around Sedona but even to get in to town. However, if you don't want to drive yourself to a certain destination, Lyfts are easy enough to come by & a great option. Plus for the main sites that are more spread out, there are a myriad of tours to be taken, a lot of which will pick you up right at your hotel!

Airport Deets

The closest major airport is Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX) which is just over two hours away. Rental cars are available at the airport, so pick yours up & get ready to hit the road! As you get closer to Sedona, you’ll see the red rocks rise up to meet you, make sure whoever is in the passenger seat is ready to snap a few great photos on the drive!

History

When in Sedona, you still feel the incredible Native American history that helped establish this part of the country woven throughout. The first Anglo settler, John J. Thompson, moved here in 1876 to establish peach & apple orchards. Sedona began to develop as a tourist destination in the modern age, morphing into a vacation-home & retirement center in the 1950s. Hollywood discovered it, bringing more than 60 classic western movie shoots here in its heyday.

Weather

The best time to visit Sedona is March to May when the temperatures are warm but not scorching & the area is in full bloom. Hikers love this season, as desert flowers add pops of color to the rust-colored trails. September to November is also ideal for outdoor activities thanks to mild weather. Temps can get as high as 96º F in July & as low as 32° in December & January.

Local Delicacies

Cactus fries are a must-try & prickly pears are made into everything - jams, juices, & syrups. Southwestern cuisine is always a good choice here, often made with local produce found nearby. More desert to table than farm to table, Sedona is passionate about its local flavors & healthy cuisine.

Souvenirs

Bring home locally made items when in Sedona. Unique kachinas, which is Native American jewelry, & pottery for the adults are always beautiful to take home. For the little ones, buy some Tlaquepaque Toys for the children. Trailhead Teas & handcrafted chocolates are other favorites in town.

Style

Sedona doesn’t require anything fancier than active, breathable & comfortable clothing. Jeans will take you from morning til night in Sedona. Sedona is colder than Phoenix, so bring layers because it can get very cold in the desert when the sun is down, even if its going to hit 100° later!

Must Know

Sedona is a top stargazing destination due to the lack of light pollution, so when you’re driving you may just see cars pulled off the road sitting with the lights off just to take it all in. Sedona has high elevation, so bring plenty of liquids & don’t be fooled by the desert around you & forget to bundle!
