Haunted Houses Worth Making the Trip

Haunted Houses Worth Making the Trip

October is finally here and whether you’re a basic witch or not, we can probably all agree that this month is ALWAYS fun and rarely disappoints. From the cooler weather and gorgeous foliage to the tasty flavors and cozy fashion, October is has so much to offer! But of all of these wonderful things this month has to offer, Halloween steals the show all month long.

We know you must be tired of the same exact haunted events that your home city puts on every year and we also know you love to travel (why else would you be here?), so we’ve compiled the top 5 haunted houses in America that are so worth a weekend excursion.

1. McKamey Manor – Huntsville, Alabama

Featured on the Netflix show Dark Tourism, Mckamey Manor tops our list as the perfect example of a trip-worthy scare. Known as a “survival horror challenge”, this haunted attraction is arguably one of the most horrific and extreme experiences you can have. Before even being considered to make a reservation, you are required to meet a list of requirements including a completed physical, proof of medical insurance and the ability to pass a drug test. For a considerably fair price of $40+ a participant, you can live, and hopefully survive your own horror show. @pruscilladupreez

2. Blackout - New York City, New York and Los Angels, California

This immersive horror experience is as close to a true nightmare as they come. After signing your liability waiver, you’re asked about your worst fears by a few performers(would it be acceptable to say sunshine and rainbows?) They’re clearly going to use this against you. Yes, the entire walkthrough is completely tailored to YOU and the most horrific part of it all, you’re sent in completely alone and are not allowed to speak. There goes the comedic coping tactic of making fun of the monsters breath! This psychological nightmare of theater performance art is a must-experience and well worth the ticket and travel cost!@victorc777

3. Scream-A-Geddon – Date City, Florida

Located in Dade City, Florida, Scream-A-Geddon was voted last year as the USA’s #1 best haunted house.  This terrifying attraction is the perfect weekend event featuring a haunted beer garden (hopefully not TOO scary, beer is expensive and we’d like enjoy it, thank you), an interactive Zombie Paint Ball Assault, a 3D rage room, 4 themed haunted houses and a Monster Midway as you walk throughout.@neonbrand

4. Field of Screams – Mountville, Pennsylvania

Celebrating their 27th season this year, Pennsylvania’s masterminds behind the Field of Screams are no rookies to spine-chilling special effects. This attraction is known for its terrifying haunted hayride through the Field of Screams and seems to be what keeps people coming back year after year. @simonwijers

5. The Dent School House – Cincinnati, Ohio

What makes this haunted Ohio attraction so terrifying is that it is based off of real events that happened in the schoolhouse and is certainly thought to remain haunted on the other 364 days of the year- how fun. Legend has it that The Dent Schoolhouse was always known to be a great school until around 1942 when several students began to disappear. The students corpses were later found in the janitor’s basement a little over a decade later. The Janitor escaped after the basement was broken into and was never found. Now you can travel to this eerie school every October and experience these Friday the 13th vibes for yourself! @edanco
