Fight Jet Lag like a Pro

Fight Jet Lag like a Pro

If you’re a frequent traveler, you probably already know all the sneaky ways to feel like an actual human after hopping off a long flight. And if you aren’t a frequent flyer, you should also keep reading because you’re reading a travel blog, which tells us that you have an interest or passion for travel, which means that we sincerely hope that you one day get to feel the zombified effect of jet lag. We digress. Here are our favorite tips to fight jet lag like a travel savvy professional.

1. Get proper rest!

Go out of your way with this one. If you’re not typically a neck pillow person on the plane-go ahead and change your life now(to be honest this applies to short flights too.) Quality headphone or earplugs are just as important. Never assume that 5 year-old twin boys won’t be seated behind you-because they will. And of course, a comfortable eye mask always comes in handy-there’s always an unnecessary light on next to you but with a mask, who cares!

2. Eat nutritious foods!

This one is a little more difficult to work around since you aren’t exactly able to pack a lot of healthy food options and get them through TSA but you can certainly find some loop holes. Luckily, airlines tend to offer fairly healthy meal options on long flights so we always recommend choosing high protein/veggie meals that will keep your body happy and in check. Try to avoid bloating or inflammatory foods-processed, sugary, fried etc. You can always stock up on healthy snack options once you’re through TSA! Fresh fruit, protein bras, jerky and nuts are all great ideas.

3 .Drink PLENTY of water!

Do we reeeaaalllllyyyyy need to go into detail on this one? We will say though, that getting up multiple times on your flight and climbing over Fred and Barb(had to have that window seat) to go to the bathroom is incredibly worth not being dehydrated once you land. Drink up and try to avoid caffeine and alcohol!

4. Try rest-worthy supplements!

Natural supplements like melatonin or magnesium are great ways to calm your mind and body and help reduce stress. Do your research first and find a quality brand with good reviews!

5. Keep screen time to a minimum

We all know by now that the blue light from our screens does us no justice when we’re trying to rest our minds and bodies. Try reducing your screen time and ready a good book instead! If you must be on a screen, grab a quality pair of blue light blocking glasses. You’re protecting your eyes AND you’ll look smart while doing so… or like a millennial trying to switch their look up. Either way- they really are helpful…and stylish. Don’t at us.
